"Having on-demand access to a translator provides the ability for a woman to communicate her needs and answer vital questions during a critical time in her reproductive process."
During the resettlement process for refugees and immigrants, linguistic capabilities act as a major obstacle in accessing basic rights, such as reproduction and reproductive health. Pariwash* is a Pashto-speaking woman who is in the early stages of giving birth. Noticing that Pariwash is in labor, Susan*, who was hosting Pariwash's family in her home, uses the Tarjimly app to call a translator to ask her some questions before taking her to the hospital. Using the help of Quayum*, a Pashto translator who is located on the other side of the world, Susan can ascertain important information from Pariwash, like how far apart her contractions are, whether her water has broken, and if she feels ready to go to the hospital. She is also able to ask her what clothing and other items she can gather around the house to prepare for her stay in the hospital. Having on-demand access to a translator provides Pariwash with the ability to communicate what she needs and answer vital questions during a critical time in her reproductive process. Relying on the Tarjimly app, Susan can obtain important information that she may not have had otherwise, in order to ensure Pariwash’s access to safe reproductive health care. At Tarjimly, we are proud to support refugees and immigrants during urgent and spontaneous situations, where it is not possible to organize a translator in advance. In this case, using the Tarjimly mobile app allowed Pariwash to communicate her needs directly in a stressful situation. *Please note that names have been changed for reasons of privacy
This isn't the story of one woman in need of communicating in an important situation. Thousands of vulnerable individuals and families are left without the ability to share vital information in important situations. At Tarjimly, we are proud to support refugees and immigrants during urgent and spontaneous situations, where it is not possible to organize a translator in advance. Tarjimly is here to bridge that divide, and to provide on-demand translation services for aid workers, whenever and where ever they may be.
